FTL ( Full Truck Load ) to PTL ( Part Load)

It’s a interesting concept, as we all know about the part load, where is beneficial for any business if the same can be in a organized way.

Lets take a example, One of our customer is situated at Delhi, A FTL ( Full Truck Load) = 5 lac value of materials 20 ft container.

So if the order getting dispatch on customer point 5 lac product getting stuck, he need to sell the same and after getting money next order will took place, My question is Why ?

Another aspect Freshness of the materials also get compromised, as the stock might be get stuck and cost of reverse logistics will occur.

So take a new ways

  1. Ask the sales team to deposit what reqd
  2. The billing can be done as per order.
  3. After billing part load logistic provider can be informed
  4. They will took the materials by themselves after counting , no chance of short dispatch.
  5. If the same can be dispatch in organized way mainly daily on a gap of 4 -5 days ( from 1st consignment ) customer will receive materials on regular interval.
  6. Damages will get covered by insurance if any. Depend on packaging.
  7. Reduction in freight cost as 20 ft we are sending but part load freight is fixed usually part load accumulate materials from many ways and get into 32 ft container and distribute from there warehouse.
  8. Part load transporter send via 32 ft vehicle so per kg cost of FTL in 20 ft, nd 32 ft on economics of scale concept per kg cost will be low.

Think wisely , logistics dept doesn’t means only dispatch of stock, need to think on a holistic approach.

FREIGHT COST CALCULATION

The important question is to how to calculate freight cost ?  The distance from x to y certain transporter want x amount . For Ex take certain parameters before negotiation PER TRIP FREIGHT Kolkata to Guwahati  present mkt rate Rs 60 k Distance 1010 km Approx.3.5 mileage so Diesel 78 / per liter Diesel costing approx. :- = 1010/3.5 = 288 ;  288 *78 = 22.5 k Standard time :- 5 days  So   Driver Salary 20 k , per trip approx. 5 k Maintenance monthly 10 k, per trip approx. 2.5 k EMI :- 20 k monthly, so per trip 5 k So costing coming around 35 k Misc 5 k Approx. 40 k will be grand total On per trip transporter is charging 20 k profit . If the homework is done , you are in a position with the parameters to negotiate and deal with a transporter . Its very much important to negotiate on the right path.  Also keep in mind payment terms , return load and market demand and supply for the same. For ex if there is no return load transporter will charge retu...

FREIGHT COST REDUCTION ( Own or Hired )

The challenges in every day life of logistics dept is to reduction of freight cost. So the homework need to be done on How ? Lets took   example If it’s a daily route somewhat near to warehouse its better to use own or dedicated vehicle Good Service 24*7 availability Proper coordination If there is some return goods can be managed on same freight Points known so less chance in delay Only thing need to consider if paying on per km , need to calculate on variables ( Fuel Price Escalation , Maintenance etc ) But on the same scenario If it’s a far of place & frequency is less Up Down costing will be more Long distance time coordination will be a issue Frequency is less so liability will also be less. On any scenario need to calculate, but always if the service is own its better but on serviceability point not on cost always . WAREHOUSE CCTV

In a warehouse CCTV is common, but the main requirement of CCTV is at the loading bay. Mainly a CCTV records a video. For Ex a materials send to a place and after unloading the customer complain that some shortage in the same. If the container seal is ok then the question arise ? Check the video on both end, a quality pic already recoded at the time of loading and unloading will clear all the doubts. In modern mechanism , a cctv can be used as alarm For Ex 1. Driver maintaining safety protocol or not 2. Vehicle condition 3. Theft & pilferage etc. 4. No of person present 5. Picking is done properly or not 6. Night vision also hep to work in low light. A company can have warehouse at various place and operating 24 x 7 . Its not possible to monitor through out the day but the alarm will suffice.
